Carrick Captures Pair of Top 5’s in Stockton, CA
PETERSEN MEDIA: Traveling to Stockton, CA on Saturday night to take part in both the Sprint Car Challenge Tour season finale as well as the King of the West/NARC season finale, Tanner Carrick was strong in both cars as he ran second in 360ci action and backed it up with a 5th place finish in the 410ci finale.
“We have had a ton of podiums and Top-5’s this year, and while they are really good finishes I really want to do a better job of turning those into wins,” Tanner Carrick said. “Clark Riolo and my team do a great job of giving me a fast car night in and night out, and Saturday was no different.”
With 24 cars checked in for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour’s finale, Carrick got his night off to a quick start as he timed in 4th quickest in time trials after going out near the end of the qualifying session.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver flexed his muscle as he got into second when the heat race came to life. Based on his heat finish, and his qualifying efforts, he locked himself into the High Sierra Industries Dash, where a third place finish put him in the second row of the feature event.
With the trace track still taking shape after having a lot of moisture in it during the early part of the night, Carrick was able to maneuver and keep pace with the lead duo of Justin Sanders and DJ Netto as the race came to life.
Unable to get into an early rhythm with stoppages slowing the flow of the race, Carrick was able to continually stick with the lead duo as they broke away from the pack.
As race leader, Justin Sanders, endured late issues as traffic became a factor, Carrick was a full benefactor as he moved into second. Unable to get to Netto in the closing laps, Carrick capped the SCCT feature off with a runner up finish.
A total of 20 cars with 410ci power under their hoods checked in for the final NARC race of the 2024 season, and Carrick was equally as fast in this car as well as he timed in sixth quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Carrick didn’t get the jump he wanted from the inside lane and slipped back to second. Finishing second, Carrick missed out on a Dash berth, but still had a good starting spot in the feature event as he was slated to take the green flag from the fourth row.
In what turned out to be a wild feature event, Carrick slipped back to ninth in the early goings as the ever changing Stockton Dirt Track surface quickly started to go away and build up a cushion. Working into sixth just before the halfway point of the feature, Carrick made his first appearance in the top-five on the 15th lap before slipping back to sixth with just five laps left in the race.
Sitting in sixth in the final laps, race long leader, Tim Kaeding, had tire issues and as he pulled off it propelled Carrick back into fifth where he went on to finish.
“Happy to get more good results for everyone, and really thankful to have a great team behind me,” Carrick said. “It’s been a great year, and hopefully we can grab another win in some of these finale races.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, California Waterfowl, Interstate Oil, D.R. Horton, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, TC Guide Service, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
