PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the Central Valley on Saturday night, Willie Croft linked up with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour in Hanford, CA and picked up a ninth place finish as he continues to come alive as the schedule picks up out West.
“We certainly strive to run better than just Top-10’s but after a slow start, I think we are gaining on it, and learning new things each night to help us continue to get better,” Croft said. “Big thanks to all of my guys, and all of our supporters for all they continue to do.”
With 29 cars checked in on Saturday night, Croft timed the Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller backed No. 29 machine in second quickest in his time trial group, which placed him in the second row of his heat race.
On a tricky Keller Auto Speedway surface that was pretty treacherous in spots, Croft would drive to a second place finish in his heat race, which would prove good enough to lock him into the Dash.
Grabbing a fifth place in the Dash, Croft would roll off the starting grid from the third row for the 30-lap Sprint Car Challenge Tour feature event.
Battling inside the Top-10 from the onset of the race, some close quarters action on the rough surface would see Croft check up in a close call and lose a couple of positions as he fell back to eighth.
Continuing to work around the Keller Auto Speedway, Croft would battle with the likes of Tony Gualda and Sean Becker as they raced hard inside the Top-10 playing a high-speed game of cat and mouse.
When the race drew to a close, Croft would come home to accept the checkered flag with a ninth place finish.
“We had pretty good speed all night, couple things didn’t go in our favor in the feature and we slipped back a little,” Croft said. “We will continue to work at it, and hopefully have two good nights of racing with the KWS this weekend.”
