PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking on the World of Outlaws on Saturday night at the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA, Justyn Cox would have an issues during qualifying time trials that would put him too deep of a hole to dig himself out of.
“We got this engine at the end of the year and we are still figuring it out,” Cox said. “We had the gearing a little off in time trials and our time really put us in a hole for the rest of the night.”
With 39 cars taking a time for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series/King of the West program, the Clarksburg, CA driver timed the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in 17th fastest in his qualifying flight.
Lining up in the fifth row of his heat race, Cox was able to gain a position and finish in the eighth spot, which forced him into the evening’s eight lap C Main event.
Needing to finish in the Top-Two to keep his night going, Cox lined up on the front row next to Tim Kaeding, and settled into the second spot as Kaeding got the jump. With passing nearly non-existent on this night, Cox would hold the second spot and move into the Last Chance Showdown where he lined up in the 14th starting spot.
With the track still heavy and narrow in the LCS, Cox would give it a go for the first few laps before calling it a night before something bad happened trying to force and issue.
“We weren’t going anywhere in the LCS, and I thought it made sense to pull off before anything bad happened,” Cox said. “After time trials I thought we were okay, but with the new WoO format and with the way the track was with the weather you had to be up front to have a fighting chance, and we just were not.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!
2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-2, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-0
