PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing with the USAC/CRA and Civil War Series during the 61st Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, Kyler Shaw had some tough luck with the wing on, before turning in a nice 13th place effort in only his second non-wing sprint car start.

“I have had an absolute blast racing non-wing in the two starts I have made this year, and hope we can do more of it next year,” Shaw said. “In the winged car we had pretty good speed, I just made a mistake in my heat race, and then in the B Main, I kind of got used up.”

Timing in seventh fastest on Wednesday night with the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster, Shaw lined up in the second row of his heat race. A self admitted driver error saw the Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports entry slip back to a seventh place finish.

Starting second in the B Main, Shaw slipped back to the fourth spot as he battled for a spot in the 30-lap A Main. In what was a wild B Main that was eventually called due to excessive cautions, Shaw received contact from another car, that sent him over the cushion and spun out.

From the back of the pack, Shaw was unable to move back forward, and his night came to an end.

Opting to take on the USAC/CRA series on Thursday night with his 360ci engine, Shaw timed his machine in 24th fastest, earning a front row starting spot in his heat.

Getting the jump, Shaw would wire the field, as he picked up the heat race win, and went directly to the feature event, though he lined up last due to his qualifying time.

On the slick surface, the Fresno, CA driver took advantage of numerous yellows as he picked off a couple of positions on restarts, as he kept his nose clean.

Using some circumstances to his advantage, Shaw was able to cross the stripe with a 13th place finish.

“For being under powered we did pretty well I thought, against some very stiff 410 competition,” he added. “We were pretty good until it started to take rubber, and to run well in only my second non wing start is pretty cool.”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-24, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-11.

ON TAP: Kyler will now head to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the conclusion of the 2014 regular season at the speedway, where he currently sits eighth in the point standings.
