Paul Parks it Again

PETERSEN MEDIA: A busy weekend for Paul Nienhiser saw the Chapin, IL driver make a late race move at Spoon River Speedway to score the Tom Knowles Memorial for the second time in his career to up his win total to eighth in 2018.

“We had a really good weekend with a ton of car speed,” Nienhiser said. “If it wasn’t for a bit of a mistake on the last lap on Friday night, we would have surely had a trio of podiums.”

Battling the MOWA on Friday night at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, IL, Nienhiser would line the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design entry up in the second row of his heat race. Ripping the top, Nienhiser would get into second and then erase a huge lead the leader had built up but would be unable to make the pass.

Sneaking into the redraw, the seven would place the Chapin, IL pilot in the fourth row for the feature event on an uncharacteristically rough racing surface. With the surface narrow, Nienhiser was able to make some moves and get to third as he chased after Logan Seavey.

Getting to second at one point, Nienhiser’s move would be for not as the caution would negate his move. With the track continuing to get treacherous as the laps clicked off, Nienhiser would try to play it safe in the closing laps but it would bite him as it caused him to get up in the fluff and get his car upside down.

Though it was a soft roll over, Nienhiser would turn his attention to Saturday’s tilt at Spoon River Speedway. An extremely slick racing surface saw Nienhiser use some experience to finish second in his heat race and move to the redraw where the vaunted eight pill placed him in the fourth row again.

Using the middle to his advantage, Nienhiser would actually race his way to the lead though he had a feeling the bottom would be too good but stayed committed to his lead.

Actually getting passed by two cars near the end of the race, Nienhiser would find himself in the third position when he decided to change things up. A caution with two-to-go gave Nienhiser the opportunity to go top-shelf and sell some T Shirts to those in attendance.

Moving into second, Nienhiser would then slide Jordan Goldsberry in one and two on the white flag lap as the duo then raced side by side down the back stretch. Staying committed to the top, Nienhiser would hit his marks in three and four and drive past his competitor and score his second Tom Knowles Memorial win in thrilling fashion.

Traveling to Quincy Raceway on Sunday night aboard Scott Bonar’s Midland Performance machine, Nienhiser would continue to be lightening fast. For the third night in a row Nienhiser would score a second place finish in his heat race before going form fourth to second in the Dash.

Finding himself on the pole after the invert, Nienhiser would go top shelf as he was extremely fast ripping the lip. Having last lap heroics on Saturday night, Nienhiser would get a taste of his own medicine on this night as Joe B Miller used the low side to sneak around Nienhiser on the last lap to grab the win, as Nienhiser closed his weekend out with a second place finish.

“I think a little Karma got us on Sunday night,” Nienhiser said with a smile. “I can’t thank my guys as well as Scott Bonar and his team for a great weekend. We have another big weekend coming up and I am extremely excited to pilot the Brad Loyet No. o5 Thursday – Saturday at the Jesse Hockett Memorial.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, JRC Transportation, Signature Signs and Design, and Steve Thomas Racing for their continued support.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-47, Wins-8, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-22
