PETERSEN MEDIA- Going to work with the National Sprint League for one final event on the 2016 schedule, Ian Madsen would turn in a strong showing on Saturday night that saw him finish third in the Queen’s Royale.

“Friday night the track conditions were pretty tough, and on Saturday night we led some laps, battled hard, and ended up third,” Ian Madsen said.

After finishing 10th during Friday night’s rubber down, non-stop affair, Madsen came out strong on Saturday night as he timed the Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Aspen Aire/Team Kline Electric backed No. 18 machine in fourth fastest in time trials.

Moving from sixth to fourth in his heat, the St. Marys, NSW native would move into the 30-lap feature event where he would find himself on the front row alongside Tim Montgomery.

When the green flag flew on the series’ final feature event of the season, Madsen settled into the second spot as he gave chase to Montgomery. Taking a liking to the stop side of the speedway, Madsen would driver around Montgomery exiting turn four on the ninth lap and became the race leader.

Though up front, Madsen would feel pressure from Shane Golobic as he would soon find himself back in the second position. A lap 12 restart put the leaders single file, and as the race roared back to life, Madsen would slip back to third as Parker Price-Miller was able to sneak by him.

The final 15 laps would be thrilling in traffic on the slick St. Francois County Raceway surface. While the lead duo battle, Madsen would close in and make things interesting in the final laps.

Unable to do anything with the top-two, Madsen would close the 2016 NSL season with a third place finish.

“It was a racy joint on Saturday night, and we just came up short,” Madsen said. “My guys continue to give me a good car, and we will keep trying to win races until our season comes to a close.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Team Kline Electric, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, TammyHeckart.com, Caliber Iowa, Quality Traffic Control, Flatrate, Inc., Speck USA, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Lucas Oil, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
