PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking a week off after claiming the Speedweek Northwest Championship, Justyn Cox was back in action on Saturday night as he recorded a fifth place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour in Fernley, NV.
“Our trip to Fernley ended up okay for our race team,” Justyn Cox said. “Nobody was really sure what the track was going to do all night long, but the guys stayed on top of it and we ended up finishing fifth.”
Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c entry in third quickest in him time trials group, Cox would line up on the front of his heat race. Able to get the jump and get his machine on the bottom of the speedway, Cox would grab the win and punch his ticket into the all-important Dash.
Lining up sixth in the six-lap shootout, the Clarksburg, CA driver would finish seventh and line up in the fourth row of the 35-lap feature event.
When the race came to life, Cox was able to get a good start and grab a couple of positions as he worked the bottom of the track like much of the field. Patiently working the bottom, Cox would get up as high as the fourth spot as the race clicked off 33-laps non-stop.
A restart with two-to-go would see Cox hook up in a battle with Cory Eliason for the fourth, and it would result in Cox losing the position and taking the checkered flag in the fifth position.
“We were able to go forward in the feature event, and that was a good thing for sure,” Cox noted. “We were on the outside of the last double-file restart and with the way the track was, it hurt us a little but it was still good to come away with a top-five.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, EyeLusions, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2017!
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-34, Wins-3, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-20
