PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting right back to work with Hayward Motorsports following his first Kings Royal Apperance, Joel Myers Jr was able to breakthrough and score his first win with the team as he made a last lap move during IRA action at Plymouth Dirt Track.
“We have been getting better, and learning each night we have hit the track, and to come from eighth and get our first win is cool and I am happy to get Brodie Hayward and all of our partners a win,” Joel Myers Jr said.
Making the trip to Wisconsin on Saturday night, the Sebastopol, CA driver kicked things off by timing the Shiti Coolers/Eddie Gillstrap Motors/Byrd Racing backed No. 19H in fourth quickest in time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, ‘Jr’ was able to work his way into second as the race got underway. Finishing second, the 18-year-old was securely in the feature as well as in Dash 2 where his fourth-place finish put him in the fourth row of the feature event.
Settling into sixth when the green flag was displayed to the field, Myers Jr broke into the top-five on the fifth lap as he seemingly got stronger as the laps clicked off.
The 11th and 12th circuits saw him make a couple of big time moves as he raced into third as the race approached the halfway point. Continuing to battle around the Plymouth Dirt Track, Myers Jr worked into second with just 10-laps to go in the race and his focus turned to leader, Blake Nimee.
Chasing after Nimee, Myers Jr was able to get around him on the 27th lap to take over the race lead. Able to stick the bottom for the final trips around the track, the youngster was able to score his first win with Hayward Motorsports, and it was also his first career 410ci win in the United States after success the last two years in New Zealand.
“This has been a great opportunity to work with Hayward Motorsports, and I am very grateful to be in this position,” Myers Jr said. “Noah West, Brodie, and everyone have been great to work with, and hopefully we can pick a few more up before the season ends.”
