PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard the Hayward Motorsports No. 19 entry on Saturday night, Joel Myers Jr and company traveled to Macon, IL where they battled with the MOWA and picked up a third place finish.
“It was a really fun track, and we had good speed all night,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I took the green from ninth and had gotten up to third but I made a mistake and spun out. Fortunately, we had a really good car and I was able to rip the top of the speedway and fight back to third where we ended up finishing.”
The MOWA format utilizes a heat-race draw opposed to qualifying, so after the draw Myers lined the SHITI Cooler/Eddie Gilstrap Motors backed No. 19 up in the third row of his heat race.
From the sixth starting position, the Sebastopol, CA driver took a liking to the short confines of the Macon Speedway as he was able to slice and dice his way through the field. Working his way up to a third-place finish, Myers Jr was locked into the feature where he took the green flag from the ninth starting position.
Moving into the feature event, Myers Jr took the green from the fifth row for the 25-lapper and quickly began working his way forward.
Jumping into seventh on the second lap, Myers Jr was into the Top-5 on the seventh lap as he moved into fourth. In the action packed race, move into third on the ninth lap, but a miscue on the 11th lap saw him bring his entry to a stop after losing the handle.
Restarting from the rear of the lead lap cars, Myers Jr did not shy away from the high side of the speedway as he put his right-rear up on the on the cushion and worked his way back forward again.
Running the track like a seasoned veteran despite it being his first ever appearance at the Illinois facility, Myers Jr was back on the podium as he took the checkered flag with a third place finish.
“I am extremely happy with how things have progressed each time we are out in this Hayward Motorsports car,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I am extremely thankful to Brodie Hayward and his family for the opportunity as well as to all of the great sponsors that support us.”
