Joel Myers Jr and Hayward Motorsports Record Two More IRA Podiums

PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending another weekend competing with the IRA, Joel Myer Jr and Hayward Motorsports continued to run extremely well with the series as the California product backed up last weekend’s sweep with two more podiums.

“We moved forward in both features, and put ourselves in a good spot both nights, we just didn’t quite have enough to be a couple of spots better each night,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Still, continuing to run these places for the first or second time and run up front is a testament to how hard everyone works.”

Friday night the double header weekend kicked off at Gondik Law Speedway where Myers timed the SHITI Coolers/Eddie Gilstrap Motors/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 19h in second fastest in time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA wheelman powered his way to a second-place finish and locked himself into Dash No. 1, which set the inside starting positions for the feature event.

Gridding the field from the fifth position, Myers Jr got off to a good start as he was able to power his way up to third. Hanging on to a third-place finish, Myers Jr locked himself into the fifth starting position for the 25-lap feature event.

Battling between fifth and sixth during the opening stanzas of the feature event, Meyers Jr finally was able to create some separation on the sixth lap as he settled into the Top-5.

Continuing to make good laps in the fifth spot, the last four laps saw the 18-year-old do some moving and shaking. Moving into fourth on the 21st lap, Jr took over third on lap 24, and another move on the final lap saw him tally a second-place finish at the stripe as he chased behind Danny Sams.

Following the IRA to Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday night, Myers Jr again timed in well to kick the night off as he ended up fifth on the speed charts. Picking up a fourth-place finish in heat race competition, Myers Jr again found himself in a Dash as a fifth place finish in Dash No. 2 put him 10th on the starting grid for the 30-lap finale.

Against a stout field on cars on hand at the New Richmond, WI facility, Myers Jr quickly began working his way forward as he moved into eighth on the race’s third lap, before moving into sixth on the 10th lap.

Looking for a way into the Top-Five, Myers Jr slid into fifth on the 13th lap and found himself in an entertaining battle with the likes of Kerry Madsen and Justin Henderson as they all battled for position up front.

Working into second on the 21st lap, Madsen continued to stalk him and snuck past on the 28th lap to drop Myers Jr back to third where he went on to finish.

“We had some good battles all weekend long, and raced alongside some very good cars,” Myers Jr said. “With tracks continuing to have series finale, these fields of cars continue to look a little different and it makes it fun to race against some different drivers.
