PETERSEN MEDIA- One week after a disappointing 10th place finish during the Knoxville Raceway opener, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team came back in a big way on Saturday night as the 2014 Track Champion finished in the third spot.
“We were all very pleased with how our night went,” Madsen said. “With how competitive it is weekly at Knoxville it was a huge point haul for us.”
Going out towards the end of the qualifying session, Madsen would time his Nehring Construction/Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply entry in sixth fastest, putting him in the third row of his heat race.
Lining up in the fifth position, the St. Marys, NSW driver was able to work his way forward, as a third place finish would move the KCP Racing No. 18 entry into the feature event where he would lineup on the front row.
Jumping out to the early lead, Madsen would then feel some pressure from a hard charging, Justin Henderson as the two hooked up in a very entertaining duel for the top spot.
Falling to the second spot, Madsen would continue in Henderson’s wake until he began feeling pressure from Danny Lasoski. In the closing laps, the two would battle for the second spot.
Coming up just a little short in the battle for the runner up spot, Madsen would take the Doug Clark checkered flag with a third place finish, the final position on the Knoxville Raceway podium.
“This is a huge improvement from where we have been as of late,” Madsen added. “Kyle Ripper and myself are starting to get into a groove now that the weather is starting to slowly let us race, and I am looking forward to our busy weekend ahead.”
