PETERSEN MEDIA: Dawson Hammes had an eventful feature event at Marysville Raceway on Saturday night. An opening lap tangle would force him to the work area, and he would rally to pocket a fifth-place finish.
“Our night got off to a much better start then it did last week, and even had the chance to line up next to my brother in our heat race,’ Hammes said. “The feature got off to bit of a wild start. The car in front of me wheelied up, then I wheelied up, then contact ensued and we were in the work area. Luckily, we made some repairs and rallied to finish fifth.”
Checking in at Marysville Raceway on Saturday night, Hammes started his night off by timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 55D in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Hammes lined up alongside his younger brother, Carson. Getting the jump, Hammes eventually set sail on the field as he powered away to a very comfortable advantage.
Picking up the win, Hammes was extremely pleased with how his car felt, and found good heading into the feature event as he rolled off the starting grid from the third starting position.
When the race came to life, the pole sitter would wheel up down the back stretch, and Hammes attempted to sneak underneath him until he pulled his front wheels off the ground twice.
As this was taking place, contact with a couple of other cars ensued causing damage to Hammes’ entry as the red flag was ultimately needed. Heading to the work area, Hammes’ team would have a couple of members from other teams assist in making repairs as the Marysville, CA driver was able to restart the race.
From the back of the pack, there wasn’t a ton of passing once the field got strung out, but Hammes would pick up a few positions over the course of the 25-lapper.
When the race ended, Hammes capped his night off with a fifth-place finish.
“I want to thank my parents, Brian, and my Uncle Tony for all of their help, as well as Michael Helwig and Lucas Tellstrong for helping us out in the work area,” Hammes added. “I also want to thank all of the family and friends who made it to the track on Saturday night.”
Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.
