(Petersen Media)- Over the last few months, Tim Williams has been hard at work in the central valley of California putting together his new 360ci and Race Saver IMCA 305ci race team, GW Racing (GWR). Saturday night in Hanford, CA, during the Cotton Classic, things came to life as GWR made its debut and hit the dirt.
“It was great to see hard work pay off and see everything come together,” team owner, Tim Williams said. “GWR is a 360ci and IMCA Racer Saver 305ci sprint car team with a 305 rental program as a possibility. The goal with the team is to put a first class operation on the track night in and night out, as well as try to help grow the sport and get people into full sized sprint cars whether it just be a stepping stone into a 360ci or a 410ci car moving forward. Racing is a passion, so I would love to provide an opportunity for someone to get started, as well as the opportunity to hire a driver and go racing from time to time.”
When the GWR Race Saver 305ci sprint car made it’s debut at Keller Auto Speedway on Saturday night, it had none other that 2017 National IMCA Race Saver Champion, Marcus Thomas at the controls.
“I had the pleasure of getting to know Tim Williams over the course of the 2017 season when he was helping Grant Duinkerken out in their successful quest for IMCA Race Saver Rookie of the Year,” Thomas said. “It was a tremendous opportunity to come out and race for GWR, it was top notch equipment and everything was in line and ready to go when I got to the shop which says a lot of the operation for a team’s first weekend out.”
The Corsicana, TX driver hopped in the GWR No. 95 machine with high marks on his 2017 resume. Not only did he claim the 2017 IMCA National Race Saver Championship he also came in with 16 feature event wins, 46 Top Five’s, and 49 Top-10’s in 61 races to date.
“GWR is top notch equipment, some of the best I have ever been privileged to strap into,’ Thomas continued. “Our night was flawless, and again that goes back to preparation. We were extremely fast every time we hit the track, and I felt like we had a chance to win each time we hit the track. Our feature got cut short, but we were able to make up a ton of ground in a short amount of time.”
“I would recommend the GWR team to anyone looking for a great car,” Thomas added. “It was great horse power under the hood, and Tim is a great guy who is extremely easy to work with. I am already looking forward to getting back out there and working with him again.”
With the IMCA Race Saver 305 on the shelf this weekend, GWR will roll the 360ci car out with Grant Duinkerken behind the wheel for the 24th Annual Trophy Cup.
“Grant and I built up a really good relationship racing together this year, and we are all really excited to take part in Trophy Cup this week,” Williams said. “We shook the car down last week as well, and hopefully we can have a good showing this week.”
While the 2017 season is coming to a close, anyone interested in GWR is encouraged to reach out to Tim Williams at (916)- 910-5064 or via email at GWRacing95@yahoo.com.
