PETERSEN MEDIA: Carson Hammes continued his breakout season at Marysville Raceway on Saturday night as the youngster charged to a third-place finish as he continues to lead the season long point standings as the season gets into June.
“We didn’t time in very well, and that ultimately put us deep in the field for the feature, but with the help of some cautions and a good car we had a great run though the field,” Carson Hammes said.
With 25 cars checked in on Saturday night for weekly action at the Northern California facility, Hammes timed the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 56C in 11th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Finishing second in his heat race to Dryver Dothage, Hammes was locked into the 25-lap feature event but he was slated to take the green flag from deep in the field as he rolled off the starting grid from the 14th starting position.
As the feature event came to life, Hammes started on his pursuit to the front. Entering the Top-10 by the second lap, Hammes was up to ninth by the fourth lap before moving into eighth a lap later.
A mid-race caution aided Hammes into the seventh position as he continued to battle as he was into fifth on the 19th lap. A late caution again helped out the young of the Hammes duo as he was able to capitalize on the restart to propel himself to a third place finish when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.
“I am really thankful to my family for their continued support and help week to week,” Carson Hammes added. “I also want to thank Samuel, Jeremiah, Travis, Clay, and Cody for their help on Saturday night at the track as well.
