PETERSEN MEDIA: Braden Chiaramonte and Tiner Hirst Enterprise had an up and down night at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night. Struggling with a sloppy racing surface much of the night, THE and Chiaramonte hit on something for the feature event, but after a dazzling start by the youngster and mechanical failure brought his night to an end.
On a night that saw the Petaluma Speedway surface stay extremely wet, Chiaramonte took some time acclimating as it wasn’t a heavy and fast surface, but more of a wet and greasy surface.
With 22 cars on hand, Chiaramonte opened the Sprint Car Challenge Tour’s Adobe Cup by timing in 12th fastest in qualifying time trials. Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Chiaramonte didn’t quite have the run he hoped for as he slipped back to finish fifth which lined him up deep in the field for the 35-lap feature event.
Continuing to make adjustments to the THE/HRP/Eagle Motorsports Inc. backed no. 94TH car, Chiaramonte hit the track and took the green flag from the 15th starting spot.
When the race came to life, Chiaramonte took a few laps to get going, but was able to work his way into the Top-10 in just eight laps.
Continuing to work his way forward on the Bay Area facility, Chiaramonte was in 6th on the ninth lap and was into the Top-5 on the 10th lap. With cautions plaguing the flow of the race, a couple restarts near the midway point of the race saw the El Cajon, CA native slip back to eighth as he continued to fight hard.
On the 18th lap, Chiaramonte saw his night come to a close as he lost power and brought his machine to a stop. The issues proved to be terminal and it brought his night to an end as he was officially scored 16th.
