Austin McCarl 7th at KWS Finale

PETERSEN MEDIA: With the 2021 season quickly drawing to a close, Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing capped their King of the West slate off on Saturday night at the Tribute to Gary Patterson with a seventh-place finish.

“Saturday night we didn’t get timed in as well as we thought with how things felt, but we were able to make some really good changes race well,” Austin McCarl said.

Timing the Country Builders/Ochoco West Lumber/Brown and Miller backed No. 88 entry in 14th fastest in qualifying time trials, ‘The Big Unit’ would make up some ground in heat race competition as he advanced from to a third-place finish after lining up in the fifth position.

Not acquiring enough points for the Dash, the Altoona, IA native would line the famed no. 88 entry up in the 13thstarting position for the 30-lap feature event on the slicked off racing surface.

Though the feature event got off to a shaky start with stoppages slowing the early flow, McCarl would not be phased as he began working his way forward.

Jumping into 10th, McCarl would gain a couple of spots as a multi car wreck in front of him knocked a few competitors out of competition. Racing his way into sixth, McCarl would then hook up in a battle with Joel Myers Jr and Ryan Bernal.

Jockeying for position in the closing laps, McCarl would settle into the seventh position where he would go on to finish and close out the King of the West season.

“In the feature event I thougth we were pretty good, the track was just tough and we started kind of far back,” Austin McCarl said. “I am really looking forward to getting back down to Hanford and Tulare this weekend and hope we can get this team a win before our season ends.”
