PETERSEN MEDIA: A busy weekend of racing in California saw Andy Forsberg in team on a pair of occasions as they finished seventh in Hanford, CA with the SCCT on Friday night before running second on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA for Fan Appreciation Night.
“The track on Friday was pretty cool for Hanford, considering the issues we have had at the track the last few years,” Andy Forsberg said. “We timed in well, we won our heat, and had a pretty decent run in the main.”
With 28 cars in the pit area, Forsberg opened the night up by timing the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Oroville Tax backed No. 92 entry in eight fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the pole of his heat race, the Auburn, CA driver was able to pick up the win and lock into the High Sierra Industries Dash where a sixth place finish put him in the third row for the 30-lap feature event.
After a quick track work session, the field hit the track for the feature event. From the outside of the third row, Forsberg had a very racy car underneath him as he began working his way toward the front.
Racing into third in the early stages of the race, Forsberg then started to slip back as the track started to slick off and get ‘dirty’.
Admittedly not being where he needed to be soon enough, Forsberg drifted back to finish seventh when the 30-lapper drew to a close.
“I felt really good early, but as the track started to dirty up, I am just not the greatest at using wing speed, and I have it engrained in my head that I need to be on the curb or with my left front in the infield and that’s not the case as much anymore. Still, happy with how things went at Hanford.”
Making the trip back to Auburn, CA Friday night to swap cars, Forsberg and company were off and running on Saturday as they made the return trip to Petaluma Speedway for Fan Appreciation Night.
With 15 cars on hand for the final night of the year at Petaluma Speedway, Forsberg timed in second quickest in time trials, which placed him in the second row of his race.
Finishing third in his heat race, Forsberg moved into redraw where the five placed him in the third row of the feature event.
With unseasonably warm temperatures, the track did slick off as the night moved on.
As the feature got underway, the track started to endure some of the loose dirt from the infield berm and made things interesting.
Dealing with the tricky conditions, Forsberg was able to work his way up to finish second to close out the 2024 season at Petaluma Speedway.
“It was super-fast early on Saturday night, and the car was pretty evil but we stayed at it and got it better for the feature,” Forsberg added. “The track stayed pretty good all night, except the infield berm wasn’t quite packed in enough and some of that stuff got sprayed all over the track and made it a little interesting. Still, kudos to Rick and his team for their hard work.”
