Joel Myers Jr 2nd in Int’l Series Standings
PETERSEN MEDIA: Heading to the North Island last week to take part in a couple of International Series races, Joel Myers Jr and the Daniel Anderson Racing team picked up a fifth place finish in Palmerston North before landing on the podium at Western Springs on Saturday night.
“We don’t get a chance to head north a ton, so to run well both nights is a good feeling,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We had success last year when we were up there, so to continue to have speed and be in contention is a sign for the year ahead.”
Kicking the trip off at Palmerston North, Myers Jr and company picked up a fourth place finish in his first heat race before he was able to bounce back in his second heat and score the win.
With the win, the Sebastopol, CA driver was into the feature event where he settled into fourth as the race came to life.
Admittedly not having his car as good as he wanted, he did struggle as times in the feature though he remained solidly inside the Top-5. As the laps clicked down, Myers Jr slipped back to fifth on the 19th lap. Holding on to fifth in the closing laps, Myers Jr took his Top-5 and turned his attention to Saturday’s meeting at Western Springs Speedway.
Heat race action saw Myers Jr sore fifth and third place finishes aboard his The Ranch Bar and Grill/IPC/Suck It Up backed No. 1NZ entry and that narrowly kept him out of the Dash.
Lining up eight in the feature event, Myers Jr had a great start to the race as he made a couple of big moves on the opening lap of the race and quickly found himself in fourth.
Jumping into third on the race’s fifth lap, Myers Jr turned his attention to fellow American, Jonathan Allard, and NZ standout, Michael Pickens. It an entertaining battled up front, the California native wasn’t quite able to get by either driver and capped his weekend off with a third place finish.
By way of his weekend, Myers Jr ended up finishing second in International Series points.
“It is a tough trip to come up from the South Island, so I am extremely thankful that Dan Anderson and his team made this possible,” Myers Jr said. “It was a great trip for us, and I am looking forward to getting back up north later this season.”
