“I haven’t ran my family car a ton this year, so it was fun to hop back in it over the weekend as we take it back to California for the offseason,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We had some engine trouble on Friday night that hindered us, but Saturday things went pretty well.”
Making his first ever appearance at TMS, Myers Jr timed the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed entry in 12th fastest in his qualifying flight on Saturday night.
Lining up seventh in his heat race, a narrow surface didn’t allow for much movement, and Myers Jr settled for a seventh-place finish. With the finish he was forced into the ‘B’ main, where he again started in seventh and needed to work into the Top-Four to transfer into the ‘A’.
With the racetrack continuing to take shape as the night went on, the ‘B’ offered up a surface with multiple grooves. From his fourth row starting position, Myers Jr worked his way into a transfer position in the closing laps as his fourth-place finish placed him in the final starting spot of the 30-lap feature event.
From the 24th starting position, Myers Jr was able to get on the move early. Working into 20th in the opening laps, Myers Jr was up into the 17th position by the fifth lap.
Setting in 15th on the race’s sixth circuit Myers continued to click off strong laps on the Texas surface. Slipping back to 16th on the 20th lap, the 18-year-old Californian was able to use a late restart to take over the 13th position on the 23rd lap.
Battling with some of the series’ best in the closing laps, Myers Jr brought his night, and his Midwest swing, to a close with a 13th place finish as he now sets his sights on a return to California this week.
“All year long I have been running new tracks, its challenging but I think it makes me better overall,” Myers Jr said. “Being able to adapt to new places quickly definitely helps, and learning different things about our car helps us when we get to places were more familiar with. It was a super fun season running in the Midwest, and I am thankful to Brodie Hayward and everyone associated with his team for their support and such a great opportunity. I have a ton of great people behind the No. 46JR as well, and I’m excited to run this back home in some races to end the year.”
