“We had a good couple of weeks in Knoxville, and that momentum and confidence carried over to this past week,” Cole Macedo said. “We were right in the mix all three nights, and I think if a couple of things go our way we were more than capable to picking up a win on any given night.”
Thursday night the action kicked off in Tulare, CA at the famed Thunderbowl Raceway. Timing the Tarlton and Son Inc./Complete Parts and Equipment Solutions/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 in sixth fastest in time trials.
Running second in his heat race, the Lemoore, CA driver locked into the feature event as he took the green flag from the ninth starting position. Though the early stages of the race were mired and slowed by cautions and red flags, once the action got into rhythm cars worked both high and low around the Thunderbowl.
Racing his way into the top-five, Macedo got into a heated battle in the closing laps but was able to hold his spot and cap the night off in fifth.
Friday night the scene shifted to nearby Hanford, CA for the Peter Murphy Classic. Timing in fourth quickest in time trials on this night, Macedo then went on to win his heat race from the pole which was important as it locked him into the Pole Shootout that was ran on this night in lieu of the normal Dash.
Ending up 5th in the Shootout, Macedo took the green flag from the inside of the third row for the 25-lap, $20,000-to-win feature event.
Running in the fifth spot as the race came to life, Macedo spent a majority of the race holding on to the position on the tricky track surface. With a firm grasp on fifth, lap lap 25 move saw him work into fourth.
Once in fourth, Macedo paced to the leaders as the laps clicked off. Unable to mount a charge to the podium, Macedo closed the night out with another great result as he finished fourth.
Heading north on Saturday, the series invaded Placerville Speedway on Saturday night. Another robust car count saw 45 cars check in, and on this night Macedo timed in third fastest in qualifying time trials.
Running second in his heat race, Macedo locked directly into the feature event after having struggles at the track back in June.
Lining up 10th in the 35-lapper, a total of 28 cars made the call for the feature event and it put the field in traffic for nearly the duration of the race. With the first 31 laps clicking off non-stop, Macedo continued to run well inside of the Top-10.
After the lone stoppage of the night came, he strung four more solid laps together as he took the checkered flag with a seventh-place finish to close the busy weekend out.
“I have to give it up to Drew Warner and the guys for giving me super fast race cars all weekend long,” Macedo added. “I am excited for another big week as he now head to Chico, CA to take part in the Gold Cup Race of Champions.”
