Colby Thornhill Earns Hard Charger with C&M Motorsports
PETERSEN MEDIA- Being in the right place at the right time last week, Colby Thornhill took C&M Motorsports up on a last minute opportunity to run the No. 7c car in Stockton, CA on Saturday night and performed well as he earned Hard Charger honors in the feature after racing from 23rd to 11th in the feature.
“I am extremely thankful that I was given the opportunity to race on Saturday,” Colby Thornhill said. “Cody and Bobby were really fun to work with, and I we got going pretty good in the feature.”
A last-minute decision to run on Saturday by Cody and Mandi Geaney, saw Colby Thornhill get the nod to make his first start in the No. 7C car as he got his first look at the newly configured Stockton Dirt Track.
With 24 cars in the pit area, the Enumclaw, WA driver timed in 23rd fastest as the team fought an early issue. Lining up in the third row of his heat race, a bottle neck coming to the green flag saw Thornhill’s nose wing collapse which made his car tricky to handle on the hooked up surface.
Continuing to acclimate to the new shorter configurations in Stockton, CA as well as adapt to the C&M Motorsports entry, Thornhill also had his hands full with a collapsed nose wing.
Finishing sixth in the heat race, Thornhill was slated to take the green flag from the 23rd starting position in the 30-lap feature event. With the track starting to widen out for the feature, Thornhill was patient in the early goings.
A slow start to the race in general saw the youngster move into 14th when things got into a flow by the 9th lap.
Coming to life as the laps clicked off, he made his first appearance in the Top-10 just past the race’s halfway point.
Getting into ninth on the 18th lap, a restart on lap 22 saw him slip back to 12th as he fell from the Top-10. Abel to get back into 11th with a couple laps left in the race, Thornhill capped his night off with PitStopUSA Hard Charger honors by way from charging from 23rd to 11th.
“I struggled early in the night figuring out the new track layout, and getting used to a new car,” Thornhill added. “In the feature, I feel like we were one of the better cars I just struggled to find a rhythm. Again, I am super thankful for the opportunity and hope to do it again one day.”
