PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night Willie Croft was in action with the King of the West Series at Placerville Speedway where he picked up a sixth place finish one night after competing in the McMillen No. 20 machine at Silver Dollar Speedway.
‘It felt great to get back in the car over the weekend and getting a couple of races in,” Willie Croft said. “Thanks to Scott McMillen for an opportunity to run on Friday night, and thanks to my team for putting in great work on Saturday.”
Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway, Croft would navigate the McMillen No. 20 machine to quick time honors before powering his way to the Dash win.
By way of the Dash win, Croft would line up fifth in the feature event on a track that saw the bottom groove prove to be the dominant line. Carving his way forward, Croft would work his way up into third just past the race’s halfway point.
Getting a lane up off the bottom, the Roseville, CA driver would move into second as he chased after race leader, Chelsea Blevins. Opting to try the top on the race’s final circuit, Croft would slip over the edge as there was a fine line on this night and would cap his night with a 14th place finish.
Traveling to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night with the KWS aboard the Willie Croft Racing No. 29 entry, Croft would come out very strong as he timed in fourth fastest in time trials.
Running second in his heat race to Sean Becker, Croft would earn a berth in the all-important Dash where his 5th place finish placed him in the third row to start the 30-lap feature event.
On the slick racing surface, Croft would fall back to seventh in the early stages of the race as the fast paced action would find the leaders in traffic in merely no time at all.
Continuing to battle inside the Top-10, Croft would move into the sixth position just past the halfway point as he chased after the likes of Justin Sanders, Ryan Bernal, and Sean Becker.
Challenging for a Top-Five in the race’s closing laps, Croft would get close but would come up just short as he accepted the checkered flag with a sixth place finish.
“Friday night was a lot of fun, I just tried to make something happen on the last lap and it cost us a good finish,” Croft noted. “Saturday night we were solid. We could have been a little better but not a bad night by any means.”
