PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting in two King of the West Series races over the weekend, Sean Watts would have some late issues on Friday night in Watsonville, CA before recording a 12th place finish at the ½ mile Calistoga Speedway on Saturday night.

“It wasn’t the best weekend on the track, but our team made the best of it and we had some fun,” the Atwater, CA driver said.

Taking part in the 32nd Annual Pombo/Sargent Classic on Friday night in Watsonville, CA, Watts would open the night up by timing his Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction backed No. 98 machine in 11th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Watts get off to a bit of a rough start and get shuffled back a few positions. Running in the fourth spot, Watts would move into the 30-lap feature event where he took the green flag from the 11th starting position.

Moving into the Top-10 when the race came to life, Watts would take a liking to the cushion on the slick ¼ mile oval. Running wheel-to-wheel with some of the series’ best, Watts would lose the handle on the 18th lap and slow on the front stretch.

As he slowed a small fire would erupt on the left side of the car, though safety crews were on scene to extinguish in a timely manner and Watts would be able to restart the race.

Mired in the back for the final 12-laps, Watts would close his night with a 15th place finish.

Making the trip to Calistoga, CA on Saturday night to take part in the Dirt Classic, Watts would get off to a shaky start in time trials as he closed up on a fellow car during the four car session which slowed his momentum.

Winding up 13th fastest, Watts would miss the heat race inversion and line up in the third row of the first heat, where he would go on to finish in the fifth position.

Gridding the field from the 13th starting position, Watts would hold his own on the slicked off ½ mile. With only two stoppages coming during the feature event, much of the field ran in single file formation.

Running in 12th for much of the 25-lap affair, Watts would hang on to the position at the finish line.

“Time trials on Saturday night really messed the entire night up, but sometimes those things that aren’t in your control happen,” Watts added. “It was a fun weekend, and I have to thank everyone involved with this WRS team for all they do.”

Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet American, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.

ON TAP: Watts will be back in action with the King of the West Series on Saturday night in Hanford, CA.
