PETERSEN MEDIA: Bouncing back from a tough Friday night at Ocean Speedway, Sean Watts would tally an 11th place finish with the King of the West Series during their first stop of the year at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.
“Watsonville on Friday was brutal, it just was not a good night,” Sean Watts said. “My guys worked really hard Friday night after words and we had a nice night in Tulare on Saturday; we just need a little luck.”
Saturday night in Tulare, CA Watts would time the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction backed No. 98 entry in 10th quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Atwater, CA driver would race his way to the win over DJ Netto and Kyle Hirst and earn enough points to qualify for the six-lap Dash.
Finishing sixth in the Dash behind Mitchell Faccinto, Watts would line up in the third row for the 30-lap feature event. On a tricky Thunderbowl Raceway that saw most of the field use the bottom of the speedway, Watts would try to make the top work but would lose a couple of positions doing so.
Falling back out of the Top-10, Watts would find himself in the 11th spot as he chased after Craig Stidham and Bobby McMahan.
Trying to fight his way back into the Top-10, Watts would be unsuccessful as he capped his night off with an 11th place finish.
Friday night was one that Watts would like to forget. Timing in 13th quickest in time trials, Watts would miss the heat race inversion by one position and would finish in the sixth position and be forced into the ‘B’.
Finishing third in the semi, Watts would transfer to the 30-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the 18th starting position. From the back of the pack, Watts could not get into a rhythm and could not get going forward. Riding it out, Watts could end Friday night back in 17th.
“After Friday my guys really stepped up and worked hard and that led to a pretty good Saturday,” Watts said. “We will keep working and trying to acquire Top-10’s and Top-5’s and work towards podium finishes. I have to thank everyone involved with the team for their hard work.”
Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet America, Darrel Varni Electric, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.
