PETERSEN MEDIA: Competing with Harley Van Dyke on Friday night in Chico, CA as well as in his family car on Saturday night in Placerville, CA, Justyn Cox would have a couple of tough night’s that culminated with a pair of DNF’s.

“First off I really want to thank Harley Van Dyke for the opportunity to race with him again,” Justyn Cox said. “I made my first ever laps driving for him, so it is always cool to team up with him when we can. We had a tough go in the feature though, so that was unfortunate but it looks like were going to try again this week so hopefully we can have a good night.”

Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway, Cox timed the Van Dyke Motorsports entry in 18th quickest in trials as they used the night to play with some set up ideas.

Moving into heat race action, the Clarksburg, CA driver would have his hands full on the hooked up surface as he finished fifth and was forced into the night’s semi.

Going back to more of their regular set up for the semi, Cox would come alive as he would pick up the win and move the Van Dyke Motorsports entry into the feature event.

Lining up 17th on the starting grid, Cox would continue to showcase the speed from the semi, as he surged toward the Top-10 in the opening two circuits. Up into 12th on the second lap, a spinning car in front of him would leave him with nowhere to go and contact would send Cox upside down and his night would come to an early end.

Able to walk away from the wreckage, Cox would set his sights on Placerville Speedway on Saturday night back aboard the Cox Family Racing No. 31c machine.

Getting his night off to a great start, Cox would time the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed entry in fourth quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his night’s first heat race, Cox would finish third behind Sean Becker and Tony Gualda. By way of his finish and with the help of his time trial effort, Cox would move into the redraw where the four pill put him in the second row for the feature event.

Jumping into third when the race came to life, Cox would move into second as Justin Sanders would slow to a stop. Running second, Cox would then find himself in an absolute dogfight with Tony Gualda for the spot.

Slipping back to third on the sixth lap, Cox would continue to chase after Gualda though stoppages would prevent the lead pack from getting into traffic.

Once an extended green flag run allowed the leaders to get into slower traffic and start to mix it up, Cox would close in on the lead duo of Gualda and Forsberg but a suspension failure on the 13th lap would see Cox come to a stop and give up his position.

Going to the work area, Cox’s team would work feverishly to make repairs but the lights would go out and the racing would resumed with the driver stuck in the work area.

With a lap getting in, Cox and company would officially end their night as the made the trip back to their pit.

“It was a disappointing way to end our night,” Cox said. “We had a really good car, and I think we were going to have a really good finish if we didn’t break. I have to thank my guys for all of their hard work.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
