PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night looking to bounce back from a near win two weeks ago, Tony Gualda would continue to show speed and confidence at the tricky ¼ mile bullring as he came home with a second place finish.
“We have been really fast at Placerville Speedway this year, and it feels good to finish up front,” Tony Gualda said. “We would have liked to have been one position better, but it is pretty cool to run second to a good friend in Justyn Cox.”
Gualda would kick the track’s second points paying event off by timing the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA backed No.7C entry in third quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up fourth in his heat race, the Hollister, CA native would finish fourth which is just what he needed to move into the nightly redraw to set the first four rows of the 25-lap feature event.
Starting next to Justyn Cox, Gualda would drop back to second when the race came to life as the top would be the better line at the start of the race. Chasing after Cox, the caution would fly on lap five just as the leaders got to traffic.
When the race came back to life, Gualda would continue to stock Cox as they again got into traffic. Closing in on the leader, another untimely stoppage would negate Gualda’s process and give the leaders clear track.
A late restart would set up a two-lap sprint to the finish and though Gualda would look to make a move, a slight bobble would see Cox get away but he would still take the checkered flag in second.
“We didn’t get a great start, but we had a really good car and made it a fun and exciting race,” Gualda added. “Again, I really want to thank Cody and Mandi for everything to do for me, and all the guys for working so hard and putting a fast car on the track.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, 51 Fifty Energy Drink, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
