PETERSEN MEDIA: Looking forward to a big week of racing in Illinois, Mother Nature would have other plans for Tanner Carrick and Keith Kunz Motorsports. Scheduled to run at five venues, including a make up feature at Jacksonville Speedway, rain would cancel everything except for Thursday’s program and Friday’s makeup race and Carrick would score eighth place finishes in both features.
“It was a bummer to get hammered with the weather like that,” Carrick said. “We were able to get a couple of races in and we ran okay. We still have a lot of speed, and that is a really good feeling to have.”
Thursday night at Fayette County Speedway, Carrick would open the night up by taking the green flag from the fifth starting position in his heat race. Getting pinched on the bottom early, Carrick would manage to get into fourth with the field spread out.
Finishing in the fourth position, he would acquire enough points to transfer into the feature event, but he would start pretty far back as he found himself 15th on the starting grid.
From the eighth row, the Lincoln, CA driver was hard on the throttle as he worked his way forward with precision. Simply going where they weren’t as the old adage goes, Carrick would find himself up in the sixth position as the race inched toward the close.
Battling for fifth, a car would get tight and push up the track in front of Carrick and it would result in him losing a few positions. Slipping back to eighth, Carrick would take the checkered flag in that spot.
Friday night the scene shifted to Jacksonville Speedway. The first order of business was a make up race from back on April 28th as rain came and postponed the show just prior to the feature event.
Lining up for the ‘A’ in the sixth starting position after winning his heat back in April, Carrick would dive to the bottom of the track when the field spread out on what was a narrow surface early in the night.
Back in eight, Carrick would do all he could get forward, but passing was tricky in this feature.
Keeping the Craftsman/CVC/Spike in the Top-10, Carrick would finish eighth in what would end up being the final feature of the week as area rain cancelled the rest of the weekend.
“Thanks to all my guys and this entire team for working so hard for all of us,” Carrick said. “It has been a long couple of weeks with both USAC and POWRi Midget Week, and even though we got rained out, it is a ton of work.”
Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team would like to thank Craftsman, CVC, TRD, Spike Chassis, Cemex, Arai, and Shell Shock for their support.
