PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending the weekend racing with Keith Kunz Motorsports against he Lucas Oil POWRi Series, Tanner Carrick would flirt with his third win of the season on Saturday night at Macon Speedway before settling for second, and run fifth on Sunday night at Angell Park Speedway.
“It was a really good weekend for our team, and I have to thank Keith, Pete, and everyone associated with our team,” Tanner Carrick said.
The two-night trip to the Midwest kicked off on Saturday night at Macon Speedway where the Lincoln, CA driver lined the CVC/TRD/Spike Chassis backed entry up in the third row of his heat race.
Needing to make up some ground to acquire passing points for the feature event, Carrick had his elbows up as some bold moves netted him a third place finish and put him on the pole of the 30-lap feature event.
On the racy surface, Carrick would jump out to the early lead as he had a very strong KKM entry underneath him in the feature event. Fighting through traffic, Carrick would do a great job of keeping the likes of Kevin Thomas, Jr and Jerry Coons at bay.
With a series of stoppages slowing his pace, Carrick would continue to lead the way though in the closing laps traffic would hamper him and allow Thomas and Coons to close in.
In dense traffic, Carrick would lose his strangle hold on the top spot and fall back to second. Not giving up, Carrick would give the new leader fits but on this night he would finish in the second position.
Traveling to Angell Park Speedway on Sunday night, Carrick would look to add his name to the Cornfest feature event wins list after recently claiming the Pepsi Nationals at the historic facility.
Going out late in time trials, Carrick would find some speed as he was able to lay down a great lap and put himself 11th on the speedchart.
Slipping back to finish fifth in his heat race after lining up in the second row, Carrick would still make his way to the feature event where he would line up in the 11th starting position.
With a ton of confidence under his belt, Carrick would again make some swift moves in his pursuit to the front of the field. Able to go where others were not, Carrick would flex his muscle as he worked his way toward the Top-Five.
Mixing it up with Tyler Thomas and Jerry Coons, Jr, Carrick closed his weekend out with a fifth place finish.
“I thought we were going to end up with our third win of the season on Saturday, but sometimes you’re a sitting duck out there in traffic,” Carrick said. “I will take second any day when it’s all said and done. We had a great weekend, and again big thanks to everyone involved.”
Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team would like to thank CVC, TRD, Spike Chassis, Cemex, Arai, and Shell Shock for their support.
