Suspension Issues Slow Andy Gregg at Dirt Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Andy Gregg and his crew spent the week between Antioch and Calistoga building a new car for the Dirt Classic. Thanks to a lot of help, the GUTS Racing Team was able to make the call for the marquee event at the Scenic Calistoga Speedway.

“It was quite the week for our team, and I really have to thank everyone who helped us for all of their hard work and dedication,” Gregg said. “Saturday night didn’t go to well as we struggled to get a balance with the new car, but that is part of it.”

Rolling out a gorgeous new Angius and Terry LLP/GUTS/Capitol Ace Hardware backed No. 16 machine on Saturday night to take part in the Sprint Car Challenge Tour portion of the Dirt Classic, Gregg would time in seventh fastest in his qualifying group which placed him in the seventh starting spot of his heat race.

Continuing to feel out the new car, the Diamond Springs, CA pilot would finish ninth in his heat race and would need to take a stop in the night’s 12-lap Last Chance Showdown.

Figuring some stuff out for the semi, the driver known as ‘Guts’ would line up in the second row, and pocket a third place finish to keep his 2017 Dirt Classic California alive.

Gridding the field from the 19th starting position, gremlins would plague Gregg in the feature event. Fighting suspension issues on the daunting ½ mile, Gregg would be relegated to finishing in the 23rd position.

“It wasn’t the finish we had hoped for, but with a new cars comes a little bit of a learning curve,” Gregg said. “We have a busy weekend and week coming up, so I am confident we can get dialed in, and get up front.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Angius and Terry LLP, Capitol ACE Hardware, Ice House Resort, CTL Forest Management, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Broadband Agreements, Russo Insurance, Kelly Moore Paints, Cal Pro Paint and Construction, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N,  King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, and MF Inc. for their support in 2017.

ON TAP: Gregg will be in action on Sunday night at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, CA.
