PETERSEN MEDIA: After claiming the track championship at Placerville Speedway during the finale one week ago, Steven Tiner represented well during the final sprint car race of the year at the track as he picked up second and seventh place finishes during the inaugural Nor-Cal Posse Shootout.
“We did a good job of doing what we needed to on Friday night to lock us into Saturday night’s feature,” Steven Tiner said. “We missed it a little in the feature on Saturday and weren’t really able to run up where we wanted to, but still it was a fun two nights of racing.”
Friday night would get underway with Tiner timing the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Deli Delicious No. 94 entry in 10th quickest of the 41 cars checked in for the new event.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Tiner would capitalize on the prime position and earn max points as he would win the 10-lap affair and play the waiting game to see where he stacked up in points.
Having enough for the shuffle, Tiner would draw the one pill which put him in the final matchup of the night. Taking on Cory Eliason, Eliason would turn the better lap time and Tiner would take the green flag from the second starting position.
Running second for the first 13 laps, a restart would see Tiner slip back to third. Quickly racing his way back to second, Tiner would give chase to Cory Eliason but was unable to catch him. With his runner up finish, Tiner was one of four that moved directly into the Saturday night shuffle and feature event.
Losing in his first matchup in the shuffle Saturday night, Tiner would line up eighth in the 40-lap feature event. As the race came to life, Tiner hold down seventh for the first couple of laps before an early restart saw him get up to the sixth position.
Falling back as far as 10th just before the race’s halfway point, Tiner would work back to ninth on 28th lap. A restart with eighth to go saw the Visalia, CA driver make a couple moves to get to seventh, where he eventually went on to finish.
“It was a tough field of cars and to be in the mix was a testament to our team,” Tiner said. “We will keep digging and see if we can pick up a win at a couple of these big races we have coming up.”
Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, B&B Racing Engines, ART, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-36, Wins-3, Top 5’s-16, Top 10’s-24
