PETERSEN MEDIA: Going to war with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night in Placerville, CA and on Sunday night in Petaluma, CA Steven Tiner would put on two hard charges that culminated with two ninth place finishes.
“Saturday night we got off to a slow start and after coming from the ‘B’, we started rolling really well in the feature,” TIner said. “I needed to find the rubber sooner for a better finish but still a great charge. Sunday it was tough to pass, but we were really good on restarts and were able to make up ground.”
A slow start on Saturday night would see the driver of the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Fisher Racing Engines entry time in ninth quickest in his group before finishing eighth in his heat race.
Finding himself in the night’s ‘B’ Main event, Tiner would have his work cut out for himself as he would line up in the ninth starting position for the 15-lap race. On a slick surface, Tiner would make quick work of the field as he would soon find himself up in third and well inside a transfer spot.
Taking advantage of the extra track time, Tiner would try some new lines late in the race and he would lose a position as a fourth place finish put him 24th on the starting grid for the ‘A’.
On a very slick racing surface, Tiner would go to work on the bottom groove and find success doing so. Working his way forward at will, Tiner would get his mount up as high as sixth in the waning laps. With rubber starting to go down, on the track, Tiner would lose some positions while out of the rubber.
Searching around to find it, Tiner would settle in line as he closed a hard charge out with a ninth place finish.
Making his way to Petaluma Speedway on Sunday night, Tiner would take the heavy and hooked up adobe surface where he would time in eighth quickest in his qualifying group.
Lining up eighth in the fourth row of his heat race, the Visalia, CA pilot would have his spurs on as he took off and made quick work of his competition as he raced his way to the fourth position at the finish.
Transferring directly into the feature event, Tiner would grid the field from 16th. On a very tacky surface, Tiner would take advantage of several restarts that came up on this night as he worked his way to the Top-10.
When the wild feature came to a close, Tiner capped his weekend with another ninth place finish.
“It was tough to pass on Sunday night, but we could really make up ground on restarts and fortunately we had quite a few to use,” Tiner added. “Thanks to my guys for all of their hard work.”
Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Fisher Racing Engines, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, B&B Racing Engines, ART, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
