PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Steven Tiner kicked off his track championship defense by picking up the opening night win during the Tribute to Al Hinds.
“It was great to get back up to Placerville Speedway and the point season kicked off,” Steven Tiner said. “We were fortunate to win the deal last year, so this is a good start.”
Tiner opened his night up by timing the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Fisher Racing Engines No. 94 machine in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.
On the wicked fast quarter mile speedway, Tiner would line up on the front row of his heat race and record a second place finish which would be good enough to place him in the nightly redraw.
Pulling the seven pill, the Visalia, CA driver would grid the field from the fourth row for the 25-lap feature event. On a racy surface, Tiner would slowly work his way forward as he would battle inside the Top-Five late in the race.
Working his way past Jimmy Trulli, Tiner would over take the third position as he chased after Justyn Cox and Tony Gualda. With Cox having misfortune, Tiner would then move into the second position and find himself on the front row for the restart along with Gualda with just a few laps left in the race.
As the race restarted, the duo charged into turn one with Gualda committing to the top. Diving low, Tiner would slide up the speedway to make a bid for the race lead and the duo would bang wheels with Gualda getting out of shape and Tiner taking over the race lead.
Nailing his final restart, Tiner would go on to leave the field in his wake as he would win the race by 1.3 seconds.
“I have to thank everyone that supports our race team, and everyone that comes out and gives us a hand on race day,” Tiner added. “I love getting up here and racing weekly, and cant wait to be back in a couple of weeks.”
Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Fisher Racing Engines, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, B&B Racing Engines, ART, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-5, Wins-1, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2
ON TAP: Tiner is considering spending this coming Saturday night competing at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA but will for sure be back in action on May 5th in Placerville, CA.
