PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Shane Hopkins would make some headway in the feature event until a mid race tangle saw him get over violently. While he was able to walk way, significant damage was done to his Moxie Motorsports entry.
“Saturday was a rough one,” Shane Hopkins said. “It is no fun to crash like that and tear up a ton of equipment. Thankfully I have a great team behind me with some great partners and we will find a way to get back this weekend.”
With 24 cars on hand to resume Placerville Speedway point series action, Hopkins opened his night up by timing the Moxie Motorsports No. 97 machine in 13th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Hopkins would admittedly get taken to school by veteran standout, Andy Forsberg, though he would still finish second and punch his ticket into the 25-lap feature event.
Gridding the field from the 14th starting position, Hopkins would quickly adapt to the slick surface that offered up a bit of a challenge to most on this night. From the seventh row, Hopkins would make some quick work as he jumped up into the eighth position on the eighth circuit.
Getting a little sideways while riding the cushion in turns one and two on the ninth lap, Hopkins would give up several positions, as he would slip back to 13th on the running order.
Once he settled back into the race, Hopkins would again start working his way forward as he approached on the Top-10. Getting back into 11th on the 13th circuit, contact with another car would see Hopkins get over violently in turn three and bring his night to an end.
“We seemed to be going pretty good, and we were able to make up ground and maneuver,” Hopkins added. “Unfortunately our night ended rough, but we will be back this week and try again.”
Hopkins and Moxie Motorsports would like to thank Moxie Mechanical, Morrison Concrete, TNT Powdercoat, LRB Ent., ADCO Driveline, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Capital Ace Hardware, Johnson Motorsports, American River Overhead, Americote Painting, Gary Morgan Graphics, and ART Enterprises for their support in 2018.
