PETERSEN MEDIA- One week after a nasty tumble that left him with a beaten and battered racecar, Shane Hopkins and his Moxie Motorsports team were able to acquire a new mount during the week and return to action on Saturday night where the Cameron Park, CA driver finished eighth.
“I really have to thank everyone who made it possible for us to get a new car, and get it all together and make it out to the track on Saturday night,” Shane Hopkins said. “Our wreck last week really could have set us back but luckily I have some great people in my corner who made it possible.”
Hopkins would hit the track on Saturday night and time the new-look Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat No. 97 machine in 15th fastest in time trials.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, Hopkins would finish sixth as he still acclimated to the new car that he was in on this night. Moving into the 25-lap feature event, Hopkins would grid the field from the 17th starting position.
When the race came to life, Hopkins would have issues with his right front on the opening circuit, and it required him to make a trip to the work area. Making repairs, Hopkins would restart from the 21st position on what was a well-prepared Placerville Speedway surface.
Quickly jumping up into 16th, Hopkins would then get collected in a multi car pile up with nowhere to go and he would go to the back for a second time on this night. From 20th, Hopkins would work his way up to 12th in a matter of laps, as he chased after a spot inside the Top-10.
A few more cautions that were spread out in the feature event would allow Hopkins to make up some ground via double-file restarts. Working into 10th on the 16th lap, Hopkins would use the race’s final restart to his advantage as he jumped into eighth when the action resumed where he would go on to finish.
“It was an eventful night, and fortunately we didn’t get involved in anything too big,” Hopkins said. “I have to thank my guys for all of their hard work all night long and again thanks to all of our supporters who make this all possible.”
Hopkins and Moxie Motorsports would like to thank Moxie Mechanical, Morrison Concrete, TNT Powdercoat, LRB Ent., ADCO Driveline, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Capital Ace Hardware, Johnson Motorsports, American River Overhead, Americote Painting, Gary Morgan Graphics, and ART Enterprises for their support in 2018.
2018 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-9, Wins-0, Top-5’s-1, Top 10’s-3
ON TAP- Shane and Moxie Motorsports will now follow the Sprint Car Challenge Tour to Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA on Saturday night.
