PETERSEN MEDIA- Though their streak of three consecutive podium finishes came to an end over the weekend in Chico, CA, Shane Golobic and Tarlton Motorsports continued to be extremely consistent together as Golobic finished fourth on Friday night and Fifth on Saturday night during two nights of action at Silver Dollar Speedway.
“Overall it was a pretty decent weekend for the Tarlton Motorsports team,” Shane Golobic said. “Paul and Tyrone worked hard all weekend and I can’t thank them enough for that. Racing back to back nights allowed us to learn some things that I believe will make us better heading into the Murphy.”
Golobic kicked off a two race weekend in Chico, CA on Friday night by timing the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino backed No. 21x machine in seventh quickest in qualifying time trials.
Picking up a win during heat race action, the Fremont, CA native would find himself in the redraw where the three-pill placed him in the second row for the 30-lap Bill Brownell Memorial feature event.
Finding himself in fourth when the race went green, Golobic would find himself under fire on the seventh lap. Slipping back to fifth on the ninth circuit, Golobic would have a quick answer as he took fourth back over on the 12th lap.
In a tight back battling for position inside the Top-Five, Golobic fall as far back as seventh with 10-laps to go in the feature event. Rallying in the closing laps, Golobic would make a couple of moves in the closing laps as he took the checkered flag in fourth.
Saturday night saw the team resume action with the King of the West Series as the stakes were raised a little bit for the annual Dave Bradway, Jr Memorial.
Timing in ninth quickest on this night, the two-time and defending Trophy Cup Champion would again race his way to a heat race win and find himself in the Dash where a fourth place finish put him in the second row for the 40-lap finale.
A rocky start to the feature event would see Golobic fall back as far as the seventh position as the race struggled to get going with a plethora of stoppages and incidents.
Taking advantage of some early restarts, Golobic would surge back into the third position on the fifth lap and would be a fixture inside the Top-Five for the duration of the race.
Battling for third for a few more laps, Golobic would find himself back in fourth. Continuing to grind, Golobic would continue to fight for fourth as the pressure picked up.
Falling to fifth just past the race’s halfway point, Golobic would stay in fifth for the remainder of the race as he picked up his fifth Top-Five of the season with the team.
“Looking back at the weekend I think we found some things to make our car faster, and as a driver I found some things I can work on to make us better as well. As long as we can continue to make steps forward we can turn these Top-5’s into wins.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 5, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 5, Top 10’s: 5.
