PETERSEN MEDIA- Though striving to be one spot better, Justin Sanders and Dale Miller Motorsports were thankful to have a smooth night as they picked up a second place finish on Saturday night in Placerville, CA.
“We still are trying to find that mesh point that our car wants us to be at, but to be honest it was great to have a smooth night,’ Justin Sanders said. “We are close, but were just not quite in that window we need to be, but this was a positive step for us and we have some ideas to try next time.”
20-cars packed into the pit area on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, and Sanders kicked the night off by timing the Thompson’s Buick-GMC/Thompson’s Jeep-Ram/Dale Miller Septic No. 4SA machine in fourth quickest in time trials.
Running third in his heat, the Aromas, CA wheelman was eligible for the redraw where the five lined him in the third row to start the 25-lap feature event.
On a track that offered some heavy hammer down action, as well as a few areas of slick, Sanders would ride the cushion into third as he chased after Tony Gualda and Andy Forsberg.
A lap 10-restart would see issues bump Sanders up into second as he had Andy Forsberg in his crosshairs as he chased after the team’s first win of the season.
Getting up alongside Forsberg on a couple of occasions, Sanders just could not find a way by the leader. A couple of cautions as traffic approached kept the leaders in open track for the duration of the 25-lapper and Sanders would close the night out by finishing second.
“Good to be back on the podium, and I am confident this team will be on the top of the box in no time,” Sanders said. “Thanks to Dale, Tara, and everyone on this team for their support.”
The Dale Miller Motorsports team would like to thank Thompson’s Buick-GMC, Thompson’s Jeep-Ram, Dale Miller Septic, Inc., North County Plastering, Anrak Corporation, Yuba-Sutter Aviation, Frank’s Body Shop, Wion’s Powder Coating, Walker Performance Filtration, Factory Kahne Shocks, Smith Titanium, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., King Racing Products, A.R.T.
