Sean Watts Has Tough Season Opener with World of Outlaws

PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports No. 98 machine for the first time since November, Sean Watts took on the World of Outlaws on Friday night in Tulare, CA to open up his 2018 season and Watts will be the first to tell you that it did not go to plan.

“I screwed the entire night up in time trials,” Watts said. “With the way the World of Outlaw format is you have to time in well and I did a horrible job of that.”

Timing the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction backed No. 98 entry in 22nd in his qualifying flight, the Atwater, CA driver would pick up a 10th place finish in his heat race.

Forced into the ‘C’ Main, Watts would line up in the ninth starting position and he would need to finish inside the Top-Two to keep his night going.

When the 10 lap affair came to life, Watts was able to turn in some nice laps as he was able to mix it up with some of his California counterparts. Racing his way to an eighth place finish, Watts hopes to have gotten a bad night out of the way early in the year.

“It was definitely not the night we had hoped for,” Watts said. “It felt good to get back in the car and get back to racing. Saturday night raining out was a bit of a bummer, and hopefully the weather lets up so we can race this weekend but it doesn’t look too promising. I want to thank everyone that supports our team, and thank everyone that works on our car in the shop and at the track.”

Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet America, Darrel Varni Electric, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.
