PETERSEN MEDIA: Rolling out a new car on Saturday night in Tulare, CA, Sean Watts and the WRS team had some minor bugs to shake out, but at the end of the day were able to escape the Thunderbowl with a ninth place finish on a rubber down surface.
“We brought a new car out on Saturday night, and naturally we had some bugs to work through,” Sean Watts said. “We had a low car count, and the track still took rubber and we were only able to get a couple of spots in the feature.”
Taking part in the King of the West’s final visit of the season at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA on Saturday night, Watts timed the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction backed No. 98 entry in 13th fastest in time trials.
Going to work looking to get their car better following time trials, Watts would line up in the final row of his heat race. Battling with Matthew Moles in his heat race on a slick Thunderbowl Raceway, the Atwater, CA driver would finish in the seventh spot as he continued to feel out his new mount.
Moving into the feature event, Watts would grid the field from the 11th starting spot for the 30-lap finale. With the opening laps being key on this night, Watts would pick up a couple of positions as he occupied the ninth spot when the lone stoppage came on the fifth circuit.
When the race resumed, rubber would begin to go down on the speedway quickly and the cars would begin to run in single file formation for the duration of the race. Getting on the rubber and going, Watts would ride the race out to finish ninth with the series.
“I think we got a lot of things figured out on our car from hot laps on, and it has the team looking forward to Petaluma this week,” Watts added. “It’s hard to gauge exactly how we were in the feature based on the way the track went, but I feel like we made some good progress.”
Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet American, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.
ON TAP: Watts will be back in action with the King of the West Series on Saturday night when the series makes it’s first visit of the year at Petaluma Speedway.
