PETERSEN MEDIA- Though qualifying seemed to hold Sean Becker and the Menne Motorsports team back both Friday and Saturday night, the team raced extremely well as the came from the ninth and 10th rows both nights to finish seventh in both feature events.
“Qualifying really seemed to put us in early holes, but we raced really well and passed a lot of cars to salvage good finishes,” Sean Becker said.
The 25th Annual Fall Nationals kicked off on Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway and with 57 cars on hand, Becker timed the Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Cherry Street Mini Storage/Menne Ranch Hay, Inc. backed No. 75 in 10th quickest in his qualifying flight.
From the third row of his heat race, ‘The Shark’ was able to secure a transfer position as his fifth place finish locked him into the 30-lap feature event though he would line up in the seventeenth starting position.
On a very racy surface on Friday night, Becker was able to put the Menne Motorsports entry anywhere he needed as he methodically worked his way forward. Using double file restarts to his advantage, Becker would jump into the 10th spot on the seventh lap before taking over ninth on lap 10.
A lap 15 restart would see Becker lose three spots as he fell back to 12th but was able to get back up to 10th with 10-laps to go.
As the race drew to a close Becker would make a couple of late moves following the race’s final restart that saw him take the checkered flag in the seventh spot.
Back in action Saturday night for the final time of the year at Silver Dollar Speedway, Becker would go out in the middle of the second flight of time trials and he ended up timing in 16th quickest.
Putting together another impressive heat race, Becker would come forward from the fourth row and record a fourth place finish and again punch his ticket directly to the feature event.
Taking the checkered flag from the 20th starting position, ‘The Shark’ again did his thing as he methodically worked around the extremely slick Silver Dollar Speedway just as he has done so many times over the course of his career.
Getting going on the fourth lap, Becker would begin climbing the ladder as he working into 13th by the race’s 10th lap. Even with rubber going down on the speedway, Becker would continue to make things happen as he worked into 10th on the 21st lap and into ninth a lap later.
Continuing to run in the ninth spot, Becker would turn his fastest lap of the race on the 34th lap, and would continue to get stronger as the race went on and was able to pass for seventh coming to the checkered flag.
“We were able to take a lot of positives out of the weekend that will help us close the season out strong,” Becker said. “I have to thank the Menne family, and everyone that helps us out on this car.”
Becker would like to thank Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Cherry Street Mini Storage, Menne Ranch Hay Inc., Astro Titanium, Ponybracket.com, Hunt’s Race World, Molecule, Shaver Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, K&N, Pioneer Auto Body, and The Joie of Seating for their support in 2017.
