PETERSEN MEDIA- Heading into the 2017 Trophy Cup with some momentum on his side, Sean Becker was disappointed with how the weekend ended during the Saturday night ‘B’ Main.
“It was disappointing for everyone because we had a lot of confidence heading into the weekend,” Sean Becker said. “The qualifying nights went okay, and we ended up having to make an engine change before Saturday night.”
Kicking the weekend off on Thursday night, Becker timed the Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Cherry Street Mini Storage/Menne Ranch Hay, Inc. backed No. 75 machine in eighth quickest in his qualifying flight.
Finishing fifth in his heat race, the Roseville, CA driver would move into one of the twin “B” mains where he would start on the front row. Settling into second when the race came to life, Becker would hold on to the position and punch his ticket into the feature event.
Lining up 21st on the grid, Becker would do a nice job of working his way forward and picking up valuable Trophy Cup points. Avoiding some of the fray during the 30-lapper, Becker would finish in 13th.
Friday night’s qualifying night saw the Roseville, CA driver get off to a tough start as he timed in 18th quickest in qualifying time trials. Lining up on the front row of his heat race however would be good on this night as the surface was extremely hooked up and rough and he would race his way to the win and punch his ticket into the 30-lap feature event directly from the heat.
Taking the green flag from the 18th starting spot, Becker was again able to work his way forward on a track that ate up cars with some tricky ruts and holes spread over the surface. Keeping his nose clean, Becker worked his way up to finish 11th which would put him 17th overall in points heading into Saturday night heat races.
Changing an engine prior to kicking Saturday night off, the Menne Motorsports entry would line up in the fourth row of the fifth heat race. Avoiding a near mess in his heat, Becker would finish seventh in the heat which dropped him back to 22nd in points and put him in the Saturday night ‘B’ Main.
Working the top in the ‘B’, Becker would get sucked up into the wall and it would result in him getting upside down and bringing his Trophy Cup to an early end.
“Everyone worked extremely hard all weekend long, and the depressing part was I made a make that ended our night on the wrecker. I need to be better at rewarding my team for their hard work,” Becker added. “With that, I do want to thank the Menne’s and everyone for all they did for me all weekend long.”
Becker would like to thank Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Cherry Street Mini Storage, Menne Ranch Hay Inc., Astro Titanium, Ponybracket.com, Hunt’s Race World, Molecule, Shaver Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, K&N, Pioneer Auto Body, and The Joie of Seating for their support in 2017.
