PETERSEN MEDIA- Battling with both the King of the West Series and Sprint Car Challenge Tour over the weekend, Dominic Scelzi and Roth Motorsports would have strong showings during both nights though the results don’t quite show it.

“I thought we had a really good car all weekend long, and that is a huge testament to my team for continuing to work extremely hard,” Dominic Scelzi said.

Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Scelzi and team checked in for battle with the King of the West Series as they continue to chase after the season long points championship.

Timing the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co. backed No. 83Jr machine in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Heat race action would see Scelzi take care of business, as he would jump out front and walk away from the field. Picking up the win, Scelzi would run into some issues as he entered turn one after taking the checkered and it would get his machine upside down.

With damage keeping him front he Dash, Scelzi would grid the field from the sixth position for the 30-lap feature event. While running in the Top-Five of the feature, Scelzi would cut down a left front tire and he would ultimately spin to a stop on the on the 10th lap.

Making repairs, Scelzi would grid the field from the back of the pack as he worked his way back up to an 18th place finish.

Sunday night, Scelzi and company traveled to Petaluma Speedway as they would be in action with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

Scelzi would continue to show the same speed he showed one night prior as he timed in second quickest in his qualifying group. Lining up third in his heat race, Scelzi would flex some muscle as he patently worked his way forward and grabbed the lead on the last lap, and went on to win to make himself eligible for the Dash.

Running second in the Dash, Scelzi would find himself on the front row of the 35-lap feature event alongside Shane Golobic. When the green lights flashed, Golobic and Scelzi would thrill the crowd as they exchanged the top spot for the first couple of laps before Scelzi was able to jump our front and dictate the pace.

Looking strong out front, Scelzi would find lapped traffic and it allowed Golobic and Chase Johnson to close in on him as the three-car battle for the lead brought the crowd to life.

A couple of stoppages would give the leaders clear track, and the action would continue to be second to none as Scelzi was able to fend off several challenges.

As Scelzi took the white flag, Golobic would make a move on him in one and two but he was able to turn under and get alongside him on the backstretch as the crowd came to their feet.

Heading into three and four the action would heat up with both drivers wanting to lay claim to turn four real estate vying for SCCT lore. Scelzi looked to grab the win but the red flag would be displayed to the field instead.

Under the red, officials opted to penalize Scelzi and put him to the back of the pack and Scelzi opted to pull his machine back to the pit area and call it a night.

“It was tough to have two good runs end like they did,” Scelzi said. “Big thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth for continuing to support me, and my guys for working hard to get our car really fast.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Jason, Tara, And Cole Roth Cattle Co., Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Smith Titanium for their support in 2019.
