PETERSEN MEDIA: Battling with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, Justin Sanders would show promise during the Gold Cup Race of Champions, but was able to finally net a podium on Wednesday night at Placerville Speedway.
“We were pretty good at Chico, we just faded on Friday night, and Saturday night we knocked the front end out late in the feature,” Sanders said. “Wednesday night was a really good run for our team and if it wasn’t for two mistakes I honestly feel like we could have been a little better.”
Checking in at Placerville Speedway on Wednesday to battle the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars, a venue Sanders has picked up a 410 win at earlier this year, the Aromas, CA driver would time the North County Plastering/Andy’s Construction/Yuba Sutter Aviation backed No. 121 machine in 2ndfastest in qualifying time trials.
Finishing third in his heat race, Sanders would punch his ticket into the 40-lap feature event where he would roll off the starting grid from the eighth starting position.
As the surface continued to widen out as the night progressed, it was very racy for the feature event. Working his way forward, Sanders would fight his way past some of the very best drivers in the country. Getting into fourth just after the race’s halfway point, Sanders would use a lap 26 restart to get by Brad Sweet and take over the third position.
Chasing after Carson Macedo and Shane Golobic through traffic, Sanders would be unable to quite get to them, but still ended his night with a strong podium finish with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt.’
Over the weekend in Chico, CA, Sanders would kick the Gold Cup off on Friday night by timing in 21 fastest in qualifying time trials, before a great heat race performance saw him finish in third.
From his ninth starting position on this night, Sanders was stout as he quickly jumped into the Top-5. Mixing it up in the Top-5 a torrid battle would break out and Sanders would actually be scored as high as second on the 20thlap. Flirting with a Friday podium, Sanders would fade at the end of the feature, but still keep his machine in the Top-10 as he finished seventh.
Saturday’s finale saw Sanders flex his muscle in time trials as he was third quickest, before winning his heat race and punching his ticket into the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash.
A sixth place finish in the Dash put him in the third row of the 40-lap Gold Cup Race of Champions finale. Running in the Top-10 much of the race, Sanders would slip out of it in the race’s waning laps. With just three-laps in the feature, contact would ensue and it would result in front end damage to the front end of the No. 121 entry, ending Sanders’ night.
“Overall I was really pleased with how our swing with the World of Outlaws went,” Sanders added. “We had good speed, and were right in the mix every night it seemed like. Thanks to all the sponsors and people who help me and this race team out.”
Justin and his team would like to thank North County Plastering, Andy’s Construction, Yuba Sutter Aviation, Roadside 24hr Service, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2019.
