PETERSEN MEDIA- Finally getting the King of the West season open on Saturday night, Ryan Bernal and Tarlton Motorsports would run well at Kern County Raceway Park as the Hollister, CA driver picked up a fourth place finish.
“It was really a good night for our team, and myself personally,” Ryan Bernal said. “I feel like it was one of my better nights from start to finish in a winged car, and that has me extremely excited to really get our season going.”
Making the trip to Bakersfield, CA and taking to the 1/3 mile Kern County Raceway Park Dirt Track, Bernal would get the 2019 King of the West season started out by timing the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum machine in third quickest in qualifications.
Lining up fourth in his heat race, Bernal would pick up a fourth place finish which would prove good enough to move him into the Dash. Finishing third in the Dash, Bernal would be set to take the green flag from the second row for the first KWS feature event of the season.
With Shane Golobic and Dominic Scelzi battling hard for the lead in front of him, Bernal would work the low side of the speedway as he worked in the third position.
Continuing to run third, Bernal would seemingly get more and more comfortable in the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 machine lap after lap as he battled hard with some of the best in the business in California.
Getting into traffic in the closing stages of the feature event, Bernal would admittedly have some struggles navigating traffic, as he would let Chase Johnson get by him with just eight laps to go in the race.
Holding off DJ Netto in the final few laps, Bernal would close his night out with a fourth place finish.
“Paul Baines and the guys definitely had the car a lot better than where we ended up, I just didn’t get through traffic as well as I needed to,” Bernal said. “Good start to the KWS season, and I have to thank Tom and Tommy Tarlton for this amazing opportunity.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, NOS Energy Drink, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 3, Wins: 0, Top 5’s: 2, Top 10’s: 2.
