PETERSEN MEDIA- Though his finishes were not what he would have liked, Jason Statler was pleased with some aspects of his 2015 Gold Cup Race of Champions.
“I think our week was okay,” Jason Statler said. “We would have liked to have finished a little further forward than we did, but it was good to make all of the features during the 2015 Gold Cup Race of Champions.”
Wednesday night’s Civil War show turned into a rubber-down affair, and most would start where they finished. Lining up 11th for the 30-lap affair, Statler would lose a couple of positions after contact with another competitor, and he would end up with a 13th place finish.
Taking Thursday off, Friday night would bring the opening night of the World of Outlaws portion of the Gold Cup Race of Champions. Timing in seventh fastest, the Grass Valley, CA driver would finish second in his heat race and gird the field from the seventh row in the 30-lap A main.
“We missed the set up a little on Thursday night, and that made for a long 30-laps,” Statler added.
Working around the tricky Silver Dollar Speedway that featured a monster cushion, Statler would close the first night with a 17th place finish.
Timing in 16th fastest on Saturday night and finding himself in a bit of a hole, Statler had a monster performance in his heat race that saw him advance to the third spot from his eighth starting position and qualify for the 40-lap A Main.
Lining up 22nd in the feature, the early part of the race would not see a lot of passing as the track rework brought some serious speed back to the surface. As the track slowly started to blow off, ‘The Big Guy’ was able to pick up some track position as he fined in the 17th spot.
Opting to follow the World of Outlaws to the Antioch Speedway on Sunday night, Statler would time in 21st fastest, and again find himself in an uphill battle. Winning the Last Chance Showdown from the second row, Statler would grid the field from the 10th row.
On another slicked off racing surface, he was able to get moving forward again as he closed out a very busy race weekend with a 13th place finish.
“We were a little off on Wednesday and Friday, but I was pleased with how we had our car on Saturday and Sunday,” Statler said. “You can’t put yourself in a hole with the Outlaws and our local guys like we did, but I was proud of my guys for working hard to get us out of it.”
Jason Statler would like to thank DF Rios Motorsports, Amerikote, Riley Collins Auto Body, SCI, Kaeding Performance, Kistler Racing Engines, Simpson Race Products, Yak Graphics, Factory Kahne Shocks, Ultra Shield, Rod End Supply, Santomauro, and Stephanie’s Custom Interior for their continued support.
ON TAP: Statler and his DF Rios Motorsports team will be back in action on Saturday night in Hanford, CA.
