PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his first ever start at the daunting Calistoga Speedway ½ mile on Saturday night, Kyle Offill proved up for the challenge, as he was able to race his way into the feature event.
“We had good speed all night long, and we were able to race into the feature event at Calistoga, which was also our first SCCT feature of the season,” Kyle Offill said. “We missed it a little in the feature and went backwards, but overall we were happy with the night.”
A total of 45 winged 360’s checked in for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour’s portion of the Dirt Classic and Offill opening his night up by timing the Ochoco West/Boise Cascade/Reliable Lumber backed No. 2k machine in third fastest overall in his qualifying group.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Tracy, CA youngster would race wheel-to-wheel with Chase Johnson as he settled into the second position. Finishing second, Offill would punch his ticket to the 30-lap feature event where he would grid the field from the ninth starting position.
Watching the track as it continued to slick off as the night carried on, Offill and company would hit the track for the Dirt Classic feature event. When the race came to life, Offill would have some struggles getting around the half mile oval as he would lose positions early in the race.
Not getting rattled, Offill would stay the course and take some rookie lumps on the historic track as he would slip back to the 22nd spot as the race clicked off all 30-laps.
“It was really good to have speed and make the show,” Offill said. “Hopefully it’s the start of a good second half of the SCCT schedule and we can continue to make feature events with the series and get better.”
Team KO Racing would like to thank Ochoco West, Boise Cascade, Reliable Lumber, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, TMAC Motorsports, Offill Family Farms, Golden State Lumber, Inc., California TrusFrame, Lord & Sons, Inc., B&S Hacienda Auto Body, Country Builders Construction, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, HRP, Taco Bravo, and Bacchetti Hay Service for their support this year.
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 18, Wins: 2, Top 5’s: 2, Top 10’s: 5
ON TAP: With Saturday plans still up in the air, Offill will for sure be at the Stockton Dirt Track on Sunday night.
