PETERSEN MEDIA: On the strength of two top-five finishes a week ago, Seth Nunes came out strong again over the weekend in the Jim and Annette Van Lare No. 5v as the Medford, OR driver picked up his first win of the season at the Antioch Speedway by way of a final corner pass.

“It feels great to get this team a win,” Seth Nunes said. “It has been a rocky year, but nobody has given up and I was finally able to get a win for this team.”

With a pill draw lining up heat races, Nunes would not draw well and would find himself in the back of his heat aboard the Napa Auto Parts/Lucas Oil Products/VSR No. 5v.

Putting on a good show in heat action, Nunes would work his way up to the third finishing spot and find himself on the front row of the feature event. From his front row starting position, Nunes would get out to the early lead only to see the red flag displayed negating his pass.

A single file restart would place Nunes second in line, and as the field raced into turn one he would slide up in front of the leader only to see his move countered and he would ride in the second spot.

Continuing to hold down the runner up position, Nunes would not let the leader out of his sights as he closed in late in the race. With the white flag waiving, Nunes would make things interesting as he got alongside his fellow competitor.

Racing into turn three and four, Nunes would get the advantage out of the final corner and race his way to his first win of the season.

“It was a really fun race, and I am just glad we were able to get it done,” Nunes added.

Friday night the team was also in action at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Timing in 17th fastest in qualifying time trials, Nunes would then finish fifth in his heat race.

Lining up in the eighth row of the feature event, Nunes would go to work on a track that stayed pretty narrow on this night. Able to pick up a few spots during the 25-lap feature event, Nunes would take the checkered flag in the ninth spot.

“It’s good to put together a couple of good weekends consecutive,” Nunes said. “Hopefully we can continue to run well and pick off a couple more wins. I have to give a big thank you to this team and all of our partners for everything.”

Seth would like to thank Napa Auto Parts, Lucas Oil Products, VSR Steering Repair, Bianchi Farms, Cameron and Cameron Ranch & Vineyard Supply, CCI, and Awesome Racewear for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: Seth will head to the Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday night as he will make his season debut in his family owned machine.
