PETERSEN MEDIA: Heading to Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night for the 2020 Silver Cup, Jesse Love would race his way into the feature event only to see a lap 19 incident end his night early.
“We had a pretty good night aside from getting tangled up in the feature event,” Jesse Love said. “I made a couple of early mistakes that I will clean up next time, and hopefully that comes sooner than later.”
Timing the Cox Racing No. 44 machine 16th fastest in time trials amongst the 33 drivers checked into the pit area, the Atherton, CA driver would find himself on the front row of his heat race.
A jumbled attempt at a start saw both front row starters put back a row, as Love would now take the green flag from row two aboard the HomeSmiles.Com/Toyota/TRD backed entry.
Finishing fifth in his heat race, the youngster would transfer directly into the 40-lap feature event where he rolled off the starting grid from the ninth row. On the hooked up Silver Dollar Speedway ¼ mile bullring, Love would go to work as he continues to mesh with Cox Racing and Crew Chief, Rod Tiner, Jr.
As the laps clicked away, the 19th circuit would bring trouble for Love, and ultimately end his night. As a car got out of shape and spun in front of him, Love would take evasive action to try and avoid the stalled car. Unable to miss completely, Love’s left rear would clip his fellow competitor and it cause wheel damage.
With the wheel folding up, the team would be unable to make a quick repair, and the result would be the end of Love’s Silver Cup.
“We were actually in a good spot in our heat, but a false start call put the entire front row back and kind of put us behind the eight ball in the feature,” Love added. “We got caught up in bad spot with a car spinning in front of us in the ‘A’, and unfortunately it ended our night. Thanks to everyone at Cox racing for continuing to work so hard for me.”
ON TAP: Love and Cox Racing are unsure of their next race.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races-3, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top-10’s-1
