PETERSEN MEDIA: Lucas Ashe made the trip to Placerville Speedway over the weekend to take on the Sprint Car Challenge Tour both Friday and Saturday night during the Nor-Cal Posse Shootout. Making the feature event on Friday night, Ashe would give a valiant effort on Saturday night only to come up short.
“Friday night was pretty solid, I made the feature but made a couple of mistakes,” Ashe said. “Saturday night was a little more eventful and we came up short of our goal. We really want to thank Larry Shelton for his help all weekend and we are looking forward to Chico, CA this weekend.”
Friday night Ashe timed the Jester Auto Museum and Event Center/SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil backed No. 33 entry in fourth quickest in his qualifying group before finishing fourth in his heat race and locking directly into the feature event.
Gridding the field from the 15th starting position on a very slick surface, Ashe would work his way forward until a lost the handle in turns one and two and did a 360 spin. Though he kept his machine going, by rule the yellow flag flew and Ashe was sent to the back of the pack.
Back underway, the slick surface again led to some more trouble for Ashe as he would again get out of shape in turns one and two just five laps later and with this being his second caution flag, his night would come to an end.
Saturday night a few more cars joined the fray as 44 checked in for the Nor Cal Posse Shootout finale.
Timing in ninth quickest in his qualifying group on this night, the Cottonwood, CA driver would pick up a couple of positions in his heat race, but his seventh place finish would force him into the ‘B’ with only five transferring into the feature event.
In the ‘B’, Ashe would find himself in a transfer spot in the early goings of the race as he battled with Adam Walters. With the duo both fighting hard for the spot issues would arise and Ashe would find himself in the back of the pack with limited laps left in the race.
Picking up as many positions as he could, Ashe would end the weekend with a 10th place finish in the semi.
“I had a good car, I just need to have some more confidence in the driver’s seat,” Ashe said. “Thanks to everyone who helped us out over the weekend, and thanks to all of our great partners for their continued support.”
Lucas Ashe Racing would like to thank Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, SALCO Inc., Lucas Oil, STL Tile, Crown Motors, Logo USA, Triple X Race Co., DMI Components, VSR, Factory QRC, Shaver Racing Engines, Rod End Supply, Fat Cat Propane, and Justeson Farms for their continued support.
