PETERSEN MEDIA: With Stockton Dirt Track opening 2019 up with a rare January event in Northern California, Justyn Cox and Mike Phulps Motorsports took the opportunity to make their debut as a team on Saturday afternoon as Cox came home with a sixth place finish.

“It was great to get a chance to race and work together as a team so early in the year,” Justyn Cox said. “We got better each time we hit the track, and I am excited for what is to come during the season ahead.”

A draw show with drivers competing in a pair of heat races each was the format on this night, and Cox would put the Long Creek Winery/Metal Works/Keizer Wheels backed No. 56 machine in the second row of his first heat race.

On a very fast and hooked up Stockton Dirt Track, Cox would endure a flat right rear tire on his machine and would result in his finishing sixth, which would put him behind the eight ball with how the format worked.

His second heat race would see him get his elbows up and score the win which salvaged some points as he would find himself in the seventh starting position for the first 30-lap feature event of the 2019 season.

On a hammer down surface, Cox would continue to get comfortable in his new ride, as he would pick up a position early and continue to feel out his machine. With passing at a premium during the course of the feature event, the Clarksburg, CA driver would cap his season opener with a sixth place finish.

“Overall we were pleased with the progress we made as a team, and we are really trying to take advantage of these early open shows,” Cox added. “Thanks to Mike Phulps and his team for their hard work. It was a fun day and I am excited for Marysville in a couple of weeks.”

Cox and Mike Phulps Motorsports would like to thanks Long Creek Winery, Metal Works, Keizer Wheels, Penn Grade Motor Oil, Moyle Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, DMI, Tel Tac, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Tel Tac, Hoosier Racing Tires, Kinde Racing Products, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, Smith Titanium, CSI Shocks, ADCO Muffler and Driveline, ART, EMI, and Willwood for their support in 2019.
