PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back in his Cox Family Racing No. 31C over the weekend, Justyn Cox would pick up a second place finish on Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway before mechanical gremlins ended his night prematurely on Saturday at Placerville Speedway.

“Friday night we were pretty good, and ended up second but we kind of fought some engine issues,” Cox explained. “Saturday night we kept working to fix our issue, and it ended up getting the best of us during the feature.”

Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway, Cox and company tried some things for time trials that simply didn’t work as Cox timed the Michael David Winery/Five Window Beer Company/Cranked Naturals backed No. 31c machine in seventh fastest in time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Cox would be on the tight side and couldn’t capitalize on the prime starting position. Finishing second, Cox would move into the feature event where he took the green flag from the fourth starting position.

When the race came to life, Cox would go to work on the track’s low groove but would quickly find that an engine stumble made the line tough to run.

Moving to the top, Cox would go to work on the cushion as he would slowly work his way into second as the laps clicked off. Chasing after Shane Golobic, a late restart would see both driver’s fight a stumble, but Golobic was able to act faster and get the best of Cox as he grabbed the win and Cox capped the night with a second place finish.

Traveling to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Cox would get off to a great start as he timed his entry in third fastest amongst 22 cars checked into the pit area on this night.

Running second in his heat race to Jodie Robinson, Cox would be eligible for the redraw where the redraw placed him in the third row to start the 25-lap feature event.

The race’s initial start would see the Clarksburg, CA driver forge his way up to third but the yellow flag would fly negating his progress.

Getting underway, Cox would find himself working in the Top-5 as a couple of stoppages would keep the race from getting into a fluid green flag run.

A lap seven restart saw Cox’s machine stumble bad it would nearly cause disaster and he opted to pull his machine back to his trailer and end the night.

“It was a bummer to end our night like that on Saturday,” Cox said. “We will go through this thing and see what we can find. Hopefully it’s a quick fix. Thanks to everyone for their help and support.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!
